Privacy policy
1. Controller and contact details
This website is operated by Daniel Koehler. For questions about privacy or to exercise your rights, please contact:

2. Providing the website
The website is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. Visiting the website involves processing technically necessary connection data, particularly the IP address, time and requested address. Depending on the request, information about the browser, operating system and previously visited page may also be transmitted.
STRATO processes technical log data to operate and secure the web server. According to STRATO's information about hosting log files , access logs made available to the customer are retained for six weeks, with IP addresses or hostnames anonymised. These logs are separate from this website's own visit statistics.
The technical provision and security of the website are based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is the secure and reliable operation of the website.
3. Email enquiries
If you email me, I process your email address, your message and any other details you provide in order to respond. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest is handling your enquiry. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR may apply to enquiries relating to a contract.
These details are deleted when no longer needed to handle the enquiry, unless statutory retention duties or other reasons requiring continued retention apply.
4. Browser storage
The website does not embed external analytics or marketing services. Its own visit counter stores an activity timestamp in local browser storage. If that storage is unavailable, it uses tab-specific session storage where possible. Details of the counter appear in section 6.
The quiz stores previously used questions and answer variants in the browser to avoid unnecessary repetition. These details are not transmitted to the server. Locally stored details can be removed through the browser's settings for this website. Session-storage data generally lasts only for the relevant browser session. A locally stored activity timestamp is not deleted merely because the 30-minute visit threshold has elapsed.
The operator's password-protected statistics administration uses a session cookie, set when that administration page is opened. It is not used to count visits. A normal visit to the homepage does not set this administration cookie.
5. Game records
The best scores in Harz March and the quiz's Arcade mode are stored on this website's server and displayed to players. The record value and the time it was set are stored, but no player names or email addresses. A new best score may replace the previous record.
To check submitted results, a signed game token is temporarily sent to the browser and returned with the result. It is used for plausibility checks, not visit statistics. The IP address is not stored with the record. Section 2 applies to technically necessary connection data.
The legal basis for providing and protecting the record function is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is providing the game function and protecting it against manipulated results.
6. Aggregated visit statistics
Visit totals are compiled on this website's server. The first page opened counts as a visit; subsequent page changes do not count again. After 30 minutes of inactivity, the next recorded entry starts a new visit.
For this purpose, the last activity timestamp is stored in the browser and updated when activity occurs. It is not transmitted to the server. If neither local storage nor session storage is available, the script does not count the visit.
The statistics file stores the entry page, calendar day and aggregated visit totals. It does not store IP addresses, individual browsing histories, browser details, referring pages or permanent visitor identifiers. No personal visitor profiles are created. An individual visit history cannot be retrieved from these totals.
The totals are used to assess use of the website and improve its content. Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on this legitimate interest, may be relevant to any associated processing of personal data. Storing and reading browser data must additionally meet the requirements of section 25 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG); a legitimate interest under the GDPR does not replace those requirements. The hosting provider's general server logs are unaffected by this website's own visit statistics.
7. External links
The website contains links to external providers, particularly bookshops and sales platforms. A connection to the linked website is established only when the link is opened. The respective provider's privacy information applies to its processing.
8. Retention
Personal data is retained only as long as necessary for the relevant purpose or statutory obligations. Section 3 applies to emails and section 2 to hosting logs. Aggregated statistics are retained to compare use over time; the website's own statistics cannot associate them with a particular person. Section 4 explains how to remove locally stored browser data.
9. Your privacy rights
Where personal data relating to you is processed, you may request access and a copy of that data under the applicable legal conditions. You may also have rights to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. Please use the email or postal address in section 1. Electronic enquiries can generally be answered electronically.
Aggregated visit totals cannot be used to produce a personal browsing history. I do not collect additional identification data solely to associate these totals retrospectively with an individual. Any existing personal data, such as your email correspondence, and your rights relating to that data remain unaffected.
Objecting to processing based on legitimate interests
Where processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object under Article 21 GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation.
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, particularly the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
10. Unsolicited advertising emails
I object to the use of the contact details published in the legal notice for sending unsolicited advertising.
